On July 8th, 2023, history was made at the North London Athletic Fields as the Nepalese Community of London, Ontario, hosted its inaugural 8-A-Side Soccer Tournament, the NCL Cup. The event showcased the vibrant energy and sportsmanship of our community, bringing together six teams from London, Ontario, for a day filled with spirited competition and camaraderie.
Gorkhali FC emerged as champions, claiming the tournament title, while NILO FC displayed remarkable skill to secure the runner-up position. The tournament saw an impressive turnout of over 250 participants, including players and enthusiastic spectators, who all contributed to the event’s lively atmosphere.
A highlight of the day was a friendly match featuring senior members of our community, adding a meaningful intergenerational dimension to the tournament. The NCL Cup marked a milestone as the first official sports tournament organized by the Nepalese Community of London, Ontario.
Beyond the competitive play, the tournament engaged youth and community members alike, fostering a strong sense of unity and pride. The NCL Cup not only celebrated athleticism but also strengthened bonds within our community, paving the way for more inclusive and exciting events in the future.
